In the face of murdering a community member and shooting a fleeing individual, ICE agents have been assured "complete immunity" by the federal government. This lack of oversight has lead to exactly what one would expect: a blatant and systemic disregard for the rights of observers, journalists, and community members.

In just the first 10 days of the year, 4 individuals died in ICE custody. This is in addition to 32 individuals who died in custody last year. Peaceful activists and civilians have been detained and mistreated, with no discernable oversight. ICE has targeted schools, day cares, hospitals, and areas of worship.

No matter what your political affiliation, we must acknowledge that a situation with no accountability leads to dangerous outcomes for us all. Armed individuals representing the government ought to be held to a higher standard of conduct, and protect the rights that we all have.
